Terms of Sale

The terms that apply to purchasing a JPGBoost Pro licence.

1. Purpose

These terms of sale (hereafter the "Terms") govern the sale of JPGBoost software licences by ILAP, hereafter "the Publisher," to any person making a purchase on the jpgboost.com website, hereafter "the Customer."

Placing an order implies full and unconditional acceptance of these Terms by the Customer. They are presented to the Customer before payment is confirmed.

2. The software

JPGBoost is an app for macOS designed in particular for compressing and converting images.

The software is available in two versions:

  • JPGBoost Free, free of charge, with no time limit. It includes the automation features that run while the app is open, namely the local API, integration with Shortcuts and AppleScript, watched folders, and export profiles. It is limited to 5 MB per file, 50 compressed images per day, one watched folder, and one export profile.
  • JPGBoost Pro, paid, acquired as a one time purchase. It removes the limits of the Free version and also grants access to the jpgboost-cli command line tool, which can run without the graphical app being open.

The JPGBoost Pro licence is granted for an unlimited duration, subject to compliance with these Terms.

Using the software requires macOS Tahoe 26.6 or any later compatible version, at minimum. macOS Tahoe 26.6 is the recommended reference version, on which the software's features have been tested and validated.

Decoding JPEG XL files requires macOS 15 Sequoia or any later compatible version.

Compatibility with macOS versions other than those expressly mentioned above cannot be guaranteed.

The software's features, limits, and technical specifications are detailed in the documentation available on the Publisher's website.

3. Pricing and payment

The prices that apply are those shown on the JPGBoost pricing page at the time of the order. Prices are shown in the currency indicated on that page.

The applicable tax treatment is the one shown at checkout and on the invoice.

Payment is made online, in a single transaction, through the payment provider Stripe.

The Publisher does not collect or retain the Customer's payment card details. Payment information is processed directly by Stripe in accordance with its own terms and privacy policy.

The order is considered final once payment has been confirmed.

4. Access to the software and activation

JPGBoost Free can be downloaded and used free of charge.

For JPGBoost Pro, the email address provided by the Customer at checkout is used to activate and manage the licence.

After payment, the Customer receives at that address an activation token intended for a single use, allowing the licence to be associated with the relevant installation. Activation is performed from within the JPGBoost app or, where applicable, from the command line.

The Publisher does not manually verify the email address provided at checkout. The Customer is therefore responsible for the accuracy of the address given.

If the activation message is not received, the Customer should check their spam folder and, if needed, contact the Publisher via the contact form.

5. Scope of the JPGBoost Pro licence

The JPGBoost Pro licence is a personal, named licence granted for an unlimited duration.

It is intended for a single user and covers up to two installations used by that same user.

Within this limit:

  • the JPGBoost graphical app and the jpgboost-cli command line tool each count as a separate installation;
  • they therefore count as two separate installations when both are used on the same Mac;
  • authorised installations are shown as "devices" in the software's interface.

A separate licence is required beyond two installations, as well as for any installation used by another person.

The licence is personal. It may not be transferred, resold, rented, or shared with another user.

The licence is tied to the hardware identifiers of its authorised installations. It can therefore only be used on the devices associated with the licence.

The Customer may freely add or remove a device from the app or the command line, in particular via Settings → Licence or the jpgboost-cli --add-device and jpgboost-cli --pair commands, depending on the features available.

Adding or removing a device does not require the Publisher's prior involvement.

The technical details of activating and managing devices are set out in the licence documentation.

6. Right of withdrawal

Under the law applicable to distance contracts, consumer Customers generally have a period of fourteen days to exercise their right of withdrawal.

However, in the case of digital content supplied without a physical medium, the right of withdrawal may be lost once performance of the contract begins before this period expires, with the Customer's prior express agreement and after the Customer has acknowledged losing their right of withdrawal.

When purchasing JPGBoost Pro, the Customer is informed of this before payment is confirmed and may be asked to explicitly agree to performance beginning immediately.

The licence is activated after payment, in accordance with the terms described in Section 4.

The Publisher offers no commercial refund guarantee or paid trial period. The free JPGBoost Free version lets the Customer test the software and its main features at no cost before purchasing JPGBoost Pro.

7. Statutory warranties

Consumer Customers benefit from the applicable statutory warranties, including the statutory warranty of conformity and the warranty against hidden defects, under the conditions set out by applicable law.

These statutory warranties apply independently of any commercial warranty that may be offered.

Subject to mandatory statutory warranties, the software is provided in line with the features and functionality described in its documentation.

The Publisher does not warrant that the software will meet any particular need not covered in its documentation, or that it will run without interruption or error in every possible configuration.

The Customer is responsible for their use of the software and should in particular take appropriate precautions before any automated or batch processing of important files. It is recommended to keep a copy of the original files before any processing.

8. Support and updates

Support is provided by the Publisher via the contact form available on the JPGBoost website.

The typical response time is 48 business hours, though this does not constitute a guaranteed turnaround.

Purchasing JPGBoost Pro includes software updates for an unlimited duration, with no additional payment for updates released during the term of the licence.

The Publisher nonetheless reserves the right to change, modify, or remove certain software features, in particular for technical, security, macOS compatibility, or product evolution reasons.

9. Liability

The Publisher uses reasonable means to ensure the software functions properly, but cannot guarantee it will run without interruption or error in every situation.

The Customer remains responsible for backing up their data and original files before any use of the software, in particular before automated or batch processing.

To the extent permitted by law, the Publisher cannot be held liable for indirect damages, loss of revenue, loss of business, or loss of data resulting from use of, or inability to use, the software.

Where the Publisher's liability is legally engaged, it is, to the extent permitted by law, capped at the amount actually paid by the Customer for the licence concerned.

No limitation or exclusion of liability applies where prohibited by law, in particular in the case of gross or wilful misconduct, or where the law provides mandatory protection for the benefit of consumer Customers.

10. Personal data

The images and files processed by JPGBoost are processed locally on the Customer's device and are not collected or transmitted to a server by the Publisher as part of the software's normal operation.

Some features do, however, occasionally communicate with the Publisher's servers:

  • the optional update check, which does not transmit the content of processed files;
  • activation of a JPGBoost Pro licence and adding a device, which require transmitting certain information to associate the licence with the user and the relevant device, including the email address used at purchase and the device's hardware identifier.

Data relating to orders, licences, and communications with the Publisher is processed in accordance with the privacy policy available on the JPGBoost website.

11. Governing law and dispute resolution

These Terms are governed by French law.

In the event of a dispute, the Customer is invited to first contact the Publisher to seek an amicable resolution.

In accordance with applicable provisions, consumer Customers may, where they meet the required conditions, make free use of a consumer mediator whose contact details and procedure are indicated in the website's legal information.

The Customer may also pursue the remedies provided for by applicable law.

These Terms do not deprive consumer Customers of the rights they benefit from under the mandatory provisions of applicable law.
